JKIA Airport to Nairobi - Transfers, Timing and What to Expect
JKIA is 18 km southeast of central Nairobi. On a good day the drive is 30 minutes. In rush hour it can hit 90. Here's how to plan it.
Best option: pre-booked transfer
A pre-arranged driver meets you at arrivals with a name board. Fixed price, no negotiating, works even if your flight is late. This is what we arrange for our guests as standard.
Second best: Uber or Bolt
Both work at JKIA. Walk out of arrivals, cross to the designated pickup zone, and order. Expect KES 1,200-2,500 depending on destination and time.
Avoid
Airport taxi touts inside the terminal quoting USD prices. Also avoid matatus with luggage - not practical after a long flight.
Typical drive times
JKIA → Westlands: 35-50 min. JKIA → Kilimani: 30-45 min. JKIA → Karen: 45-60 min. Add 20+ minutes weekday 7-9 am and 5-7 pm.
