JKIA Airport to Nairobi — Transfers, Timing and What to Expect
JKIA is 18 km southeast of central Nairobi. On a good day the drive is 30 minutes. In rush hour it can hit 90. Here's how to plan it.
Best option: pre-booked transfer
A pre-arranged driver meets you at arrivals with a name board. Fixed price, no negotiating, works even if your flight is late. This is what we arrange for our guests as standard.
Second best: Uber or Bolt
Both work at JKIA. Walk out of arrivals, cross to the designated pickup zone, and order. Expect KES 1,200–2,500 depending on destination and time.
Avoid
Airport taxi touts inside the terminal quoting USD prices. Also avoid matatus with luggage — not practical after a long flight.
Typical drive times
JKIA → Westlands: 35–50 min. JKIA → Kilimani: 30–45 min. JKIA → Karen: 45–60 min. Add 20+ minutes weekday 7–9 am and 5–7 pm.
